Important Lessons From The Good Old Days
Someone recently asked a young man if his family had money to which he replied.
I came from a family that is guided by dignity of labour, hard work and the fear of God.
That sounds like the good old days.
In those days people valued hard work over sudden riches.
They were inquisitive and curious about how you got your money.
They worshipped God then, not money
They questioned motives.
Children were brought up with a lot of outstanding principles:
Accountability, Transparency, Honesty, Contentment, Quietness, Gratitude, Sobriety, Selflessness, Thriftiness, Sportsmanship, Self-motivation, Delayed-gratification, Good hygiene, Self-preservation/Care/Defense.
A young man is expected to vacate his seat for the elderly and seniors in public transit.
Then, teaching was regarded as a noble profession and teachers were highly regarded in the society.
Parents allowed teachers to co- discipline their children.
Children were expected to maintain dignity and decorum at all times and they did.
No resistance to discipline, no talkback, no murmuring.
Overall good report is expected because character building is of utmost importance.
